Hoiberg: How did we miss an ex-con?

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State head basketball coach Fred Hoiberg is stunned that he let this one get away.  Earlier today, 25 year old Anthony Hubbard signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Iowa.  Hubbard, an ex-con who spent 4 years in prison, is expected to make an immediate impact for the Hawkeyes.

“I have no idea how we missed this one.,” said the second year head coach.  “Hubbard would have fit our system well.”

As Snarky Hawk first reported, Hoiberg instituted a new policy of recruiting players whose resume would likely include jail.  Hoiberg says Hubbard would have been the “crown jewel” of that philosophy.

“I think you can just call this a rookie mistake and leave it at that,” said Hoiberg.  “I’m just going to have to swallow this and move on.”

Anthony Hubbard expects to make an immediate impact for Iowa basketball.

Hoiberg said he will get back on the recruiting trail Monday morning when he heads to  the Story County Courthouse for morning arraignments.
